My Hero I would like to thank Alice Cooper for all the years of great music and for always being there when I needed a friend. (No, I have never actually met him, came sooo close.) 1971 "Eighteen" first hit the radio when I was in 1st grade and it immediately became my anthem. It told us it was 'ok' to be different and feel confused and torn between worlds. And Alice spoke the greatest Rock'n'Roll words over said: "I like it!" This is who I am; I won't be here forever, so I'll just enjoy it. (I really enjoyed being the nice little girl with a rubber snake around her neck and a whip in her hand.) 1978 Heard an interview on the radio, missed the beginning when they said who it was. After everything the man said I said, "yeah, that's true" or "yeah, you're right". His words touched me deep. Finally the DJ said, "We are speaking with Alice Cooper". Without songs like "I Never Cry", "Escape" and "Department of Youth" the early teenage years would have been unbearable. Many changes, twists and turns...we both did the military look, the Trash thing....still the same at heart and still playing with the whip!!! 1994 Didn't know what was wrong until the first lines of "Sideshow": "I ain't got no fun today. It's just like yesterday, oh yeah, only different shades of gray. I'm bored right out of my skull...". Yup, once again Alice Cooper was in my head saying exactly what I was going thru. 2000 "It's the Little Things", way too close to home. My truck catches on fire...fine...no problem...someone 'taps' while watching a movie...I flip out! 2001 "I Just Wanna be God". Enough said. Again, I want to say Thank You to Alice for teaching me self-esteem, self-acceptance and the character to never give into peer pressure. I've never been alone; Alice is always there, no matter the problem, no matter the need. The Coop always delivers! I am who I am faults & all...and I LIKE IT!
